Prisoner’s Lament

Ever feel trapped? Imprisoned? Chained to something or someplace that you’d rather not be? That’s what my 22nd NaPoWriMo poem is about.

Prisoner’s Lament

Sitting in my prison cell
Made of white tiles.
Spending time locked away
From other people’s smiles.

I can leave when I’ve paid my dues,
But I always return
To add more to the offering bowl
When my stomach starts to churn.

I want to be free
From this imprisoned life
And spend my time productively
Instead of dealing with this strife.

There’s a world out there
Waiting to be explored,
But here I sit in my thinking chair
Becoming oh-so bored.

Maybe someday I’ll escape
And be free from this curse.
I just hope that it gets better
Instead of getting any worse.
