24 Hours

So you’ve just finished writing something. Awesome! What next? Well, you’ll want to edit it, of course.

Hold your horses! Don’t get to it just yet. Let your work sit for a little bit. Give yourself some time to clear your head so that when you do get around to editing it, you’ll be able to look at it with a fresh perspective.

Give yourself at least 24 hours before you edit it.

Here are some things that you can do in the meantime:

  • Take a walk in nature
  • Read a book
  • Balance your checkbook
  • Clean laundry
  • Buy groceries
  • Run errands
  • Take your car to the mechanic to get that strange noise looked at
  • Take yourself to the doctor to get that strange growth looked at
  • Exercise
  • Clean your room
  • Organize your desk
  • Plot world domination
  • Create a vision board
  • Pray or meditate
  • Have sex with a consenting adult (or by yourself)
  • Eat a sandwich
  • Ride a bike
  • Play a board game
  • Play a card game
  • Play a video game
  • Play a sport
  • Play music
  • Learn to play an instrument
  • Clip your fingernails and toenails
  • Brush your teeth
  • Take a dump
  • Take a shower
  • Take no prisoners
  • Watch TV
  • Watch a movie
  • Watch paint dry
  • Create art
  • Smoke a bowl
  • Prepare for the zombie apocalypse
  • Go on a diet
  • Take your medication
  • Walk the dog
  • Sit in a dark room and do nothing

And then after 24 hours, sit your ass down and edit what you wrote. Rinse and repeat.

Just don’t wait too long to edit it, or else it may never get done!
